We recently completed work on a book with (and for) the Texas Museum of Fiber Arts, “a collection of 220 artworks created by 150 artists who live in Texas, have lived in Texas, or were educated in Texas”. We worked with a massive volume of images – a collection spanning several years, in order to whittle down the selection to represent each artist using the single best image we could find (though several artists did have more than one piece shown in the book). Centro Y Sur no. 6 is now available online (and free as usual of course). This is easily the best issue we’ve put together so far (and largest – 100 pages!), and the most colorful. We changed the color palette a little to more closely match the theme: Romance. (more…)

The humongous Absolute Sound Editors’ Choice issue arrived in the mail yesterday – this issue is almost entirely devoted to shorter, ‘capsule’ reviews, broken into categories and then ordered by price range, in order of ascending cost. There are literally hundreds of reviews, and as a result it’s a very tightly packed, but very clean issue. Due to the volume of ads, there were only two or three options in the entire book for editorial spreads, and even those are dense with copy. The Absolute Sound issue 220 landed in the office today. Cover photography is by Steven Stone, who is also a frequent contributor and reviewer. This issue contains a humongous report from The Rocky Mountain Show – it was definitely one of those pieces that we had to stop and think about how we were going to make it look compelling while fitting in all that copy in such a small amount of space – you can see some pages from the report after the jump. Centro Y Sur no. 5 is now available to read online here, and as usual it’s packed full of awesome. There’s a really diverse and interesting mix of content in this issue, and one of my favorite pieces is Margie Goldsmith’s account of a trek into the Peruvian rainforest with the late Carl Skoog. Thanks to Carl’s family for allowing us to use his photography.
