During a tense one-on-one conversation with a former colleague about Star Trek: The Next Generation, our colleague described the plot of the episode Time's Arrow, in which Commander Data travels back in time, loses his head, regains his head, and everything is pretty much back to normal at the end. Our colleague suggested that this episode had left a huge, dangling plot thread: that Data's head was still buried in San Francisco, even in the present day of Star Trek continuity. Not being one to back down when someone is so clearly wrong, we were forced to draw the plot points as a diagram for our colleague, in order to make sure they understood the basic plot points, and the issue of Data's head's journey through time.

It was tempting to make this infographic in the form of Michael Okuda's incredible LCARs interface design that he created for the show, and I might still. However, this felt like a win for the power of infographics, so, until then, here's the argument-winning diagram for your pleasure.
