Unfinished, Never-Used, Comedy Tour Parody Poster

Last comedy-related collateral post for a while, promise. Here's a quick look at a never-used, unfinished project for comedians Dave Stone and Ryan Singer (and Geoff Tate, Gilbert Lawand). The brief was simple - make a comedy tour poster riffing on the original The Cannonball Run movie poster.

I got the email about this early one weekend, and as soon as I had the basic idea described to me, started immediately. I had some basic info such as the type of car they wanted in the poster, and that it should feature the four comedians on the tour (obviously). From that point, I found the original movie's poster online to use as a reference. I decided against just adding their heads to the original movie poster - that had been done before by others, and none of those looked good. It would probably also be a whole world of copyright issues. Instead, after gathering various headshots of the guys involved, I went to a few different stock image and art sources to find elements that closely matched the original poster elements, and started roughly building them in Photoshop (still using the original poster as a faint transparent layer to basically trace).

Unfortunately, the poster was nixed for other materials they decided to use (and before they even saw any type of mock-up because I was all in way too fast). However, it was an awesome challenge to put together, and even though it never got to a finished version, I really liked how it was coming together. See a larger version of our poster parody below. Note the general unfinished-ness, including the big space on the speed limit sign in the middle.
