We're frequently asked what the advantages are in hiring contractors (like October Custom Publishing) as opposed to a client just hiring a full-time employee. I don't think it's a question that can - or should - be answered glibly. However, when I'm asked, it usually goes something like this: there are numerous reasons, but in my mind one of the most important reasons - aside from built-in redundancy that leaves you less vulnerable to delays through absence, savings on overhead like equipment, workspaces, benefits, paid leave, and more - is access to a wider range of skills and experience.

We work on an exciting mix of projects, each bringing our own unique inspiration from a diverse array of interests. We're not tied down to just one type of task or a single brand, which means we're always getting a fresh dose of creativity from various projects and challenges. This constant exposure to new ideas and resources not only keeps our work vibrant but also enhances the quality of what we deliver to all our clients.

Although we spend most work days in our Austin, Texas studio, we've adapted to a world where our clients often work remotely or in a hybrid setting. This shift has reinforced the idea that being in an office five days a week isn't essential for high-quality output. Embracing this flexibility, we too enjoy the occasional work-from-home day or a change of scenery at a local coffee shop. It's obvious now that great work doesn't require sharing the same physical space with your team.
